Romantic railways: hand-coloured views of the Paris–Versailles line, 1840s

Price

€ 450,00

A charming colour plate book showcasing scenic and architectural highlights along the historic Paris–Versailles railway, one of France’s earliest passenger lines.

Published by Lebrasseur—also known for a similar volume on the Paris–Chartres line—this volume contains 22 delicately hand-coloured lithographs, executed by the De Becquet brothers after drawings by Provost.

The plates offer detailed and atmospheric views of:

  • Courbevoie
  • Suresnes
  • St. Cloud
  • Sèvres
  • Ville d'Avray
  • Versailles (12 views)

This work captures the spirit of early railway tourism and reflects the Romantic fascination with landscape and progress.

Ideal for collections focused on transportation history, 19th-century lithography, or French regional topography, it offers both aesthetic appeal and historical significance.
