Beautiful fabric-illustrated Dutch dress book
€ 475,00
First edition of a lovely Dutch textured book with four lithographed plates showing figures dressed in clothes made of various fabrics such as felt, tulle (netting) and silk, mounted to the plates.
It narrates the story of the siblings Rudolf and Susanna, who are left with a huge debt after the death of their father. To make ends meet, Susanna takes on all kinds of sewing jobs, while Rudolf leaves for the Dutch East Indies, where he defends a planter against a tiger attack. Rodulf marries the planter’s daughter and takes her back to his homeland, where they settle in a castle with his sister and mother.
The last pages includes a publisher's catalogue.
Only two other dress books were published in the Netherlands: Lina, het vermiste kind in 1862 and De nette juffer Carabas in 1880.
Rare: Rare Book Hub lists only three copies sold in the past 15 years.
