A desperate hope: Rare German Jewish appeal for Palestine (1930s)

A rare pre-Holocaust leaflet urgently calling upon German Jews to bolster the land acquisition efforts of Keren Kajemeth Lejisrael (Jewish National Fund).

Published in the tumultuous 1930s, its message was forged against a backdrop of escalating antisemitism in Germany, explicitly decrying "a life grown meaningless in Galuth."

Beyond merely seeking funds, the leaflet starkly outlines the severe challenges facing Jews in Erez Israel, where the Yishuv endured attacks, acts of arson, and even murder. It details the employment of 400 police officers and "schomrim" (guards) to protect these vital settlements.

This publication can be dated to circa 1937-1938 because of its mention of the ongoing construction of the Tel Aviv Port, which was completed in 1938.
