First edition of a thorough treatise on the use of opium, in which Brachet recommends prescribing high doses.

 

Jean Louis Brachet (1789-1858) did important research in the field of neurophysiology. A prolific author with keen observational powers, he used opium himself rather immoderately to alleviate the acute pains that probably resulted from stomach cancer.
