Rare edition of an influential attack on traditional medicine

Giuseppe Gazola (1661-1715) was an Italian physician, best remembered today for the present work.

First published posthumously in 1716 as Il Mondo Ingannato da Falsi Medici, it went through numerous editions and was translated into several European languages, including Spanish and Dutch.

In the essay Gazola vehemently attacks traditional Galenic medicine, which, according to the author, often does more harm than good. It sparked an important debate on the scientific foundations of medicine.
