Rare Dutch handbill distributed illegally by Vrij Nederland in 1944
[Ger Soutendijk] & [H.M. van Randwijk]. Het ondier vlucht. September 1944. Handbill, printed on both sides (13,9 x 9 cm). In very good condition.
Handbill distributed by Vrij Nederland in September 1944, just after the so-called Dolle Dinsdag (Mad Tuesday), 5 September 1944, when the alleged liberation of Breda caused rumours that The Netherlands would soon be liberated by the Allied forces. The anonymous text was penned by the famous editor of Vrij Nederland, H.M. van Randwijk. The drawing is by Ger Soutendijk, who also clandestinely published resistance poetry during WOII.
