First edition of a rare Dutch algebra textbook.

Dedicated to scientist Petrus van Musschenbroek and divided into four 'books', it includes exercises and their solutions on basic algebra, polynomial equations, arithmetic, logarithms, etc. It was reissued in 1749 and 1766.

The author, Symon Panser, was an Embden teacher of mathematics, astronomy and navigation. He wrote several works on algebra, arithmetics, astronomy and solar eclipses. The lovely portrait is by J. Heze.
