Rare second edition of Hille's medical textbook, arranged in the form of questions and answers to instruct medical students.
First published in 1706, the treatise opens with a 30-page theoretical introduction, then follow 36 capitals discussing a wide variety of fractures, wounds, diseases, etc. But perhaps the most interesting chapter is the final part, on syphilis and other venereal diseases, including chancres, paraphimosis ("Spaanse kraag"), and genital ulcers.
Hille (1633-1706) served as a naval surgeon aboard a ship commanded by Maarten Tromp before setting up practice in Antwerp. His Tooneel der chirurgie was "ein geschätztes Handbuch der Chirurgie" (Hirsch).
