First edition of an essay on dentistry and artificial teeth.
Thomas Howard, surgeon dentist to the archbishop of Canterbury, developed a new method of manufacturing extremely durable artificial teeth, fitted to the gum using capillary attraction (rather than wire and springs), as detailed in the present essay. The frontispiece shows "the face of a lady deprived of her teeth" and, underneath the flap, "the same face restored to its original & youthful appearance by the aid of artificial teeth as supplied by Mr. Thomas Howard".
