Second, augmented edition of Dessartz's detailed account of croup, or laryngotracheobronchitis, first published in 1807. Lovely unopened copy.
One of the treatments that the author prescribes is syrup of ipecac (in France also known as "sirop de Desessartz"), a cough mixture widely used in the 18th and 19th centuries as as an expectorant; Desessartz details the recipe on pages 44 and 45. The last seven pages include with a separate part-title Instruction en forme de Catéchisme, sur une espece de toux appelée Croup.
